Why did Matt join the dancing before the feast? How did he feel about his participation in the dance?

Attean commanded Matt to join the dance and he didn't want to be rude to his host. When the the dance ended, Matt felt at one with the Indians.

Why did Attean seem to blame white men for not being allowed to go on the deer hunt?

Attean explained to Matt that indians now only wanted to hunt with guns and since he didn't have one he couldn't join the hunt. White man would not accept wampum and they required large numbers of beaver pelts to purchase a gun. In addition, as more white settlers move in, animals were becoming scarce and it was getting more difficult to hunt.

Why wouldn't Attean release the fox from the trap? How did Matt feel about this?

Attean wouldn't take an animal on another clan's land and and he felt assured that the fox would bite his own leg free of the trap. Matt thought the steel trap was inflicting unnecessary pain on the animal and wanted it released.

Why was Attean's bow superior to the one Matt had fashioned?

Attean's bow was superior because he knew what wood to select, how to cut it, and what kind of materials to use for the bowstring he invested time, knowledge, and patience in its Construction.

Why was Attean's grandmother angry that Matt had come to the feast?

Attean's grandmother resented Matt's presence at the feast because she felt bitterness toward all white people since Attean's parents were killed by white men.

Attean, to show his pleasure, offered Matt a compliment, saying he was quick like an Indian.

Matt wanted attean to continue his visits and he knew the Bible would be appealing with its action-packed stories told in straight-forward language.

Matt was embarrassed because he had constructed a clumsy bow and arrows that couldn't shoot straight.

Matt was invited to the feast as a courtesy for helping to kill the bear.

Matt, realizing that his father was past due, worried that he may have had a fatal attack with a bear.

The story of noah, like many of the bible stories, appears in different versions across many cultures. Attean was excited when he realized that the story of Noah and the flood was similar to a story told by the Indians of Attean's clan.

How did Matt's quick thinking allow Attean to kill the bear?

Thinking quickly, Matt threw a dead rabbit at the bear. This startled the bear, giving Attean enough time to shoot it with his bow and arrow. It allowed him to have a split second to shoot the bear while it was not paying attention.
