four stroke engine

A four-stroke engine (also known as four-cycle) is an internal combustion engine in which the piston completes four separate strokes which constitute a single thermodynamic cycle. A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston along the cylinder, in either direction.

two stroke engine

A two-stroke, or two-cycle, engine is a type of internal combustion engine which completes a power cycle in only one crankshaft revolution and with two strokes, or up and down movements, of the piston in comparison to a "four-stroke engine", which uses four strokes

exhaust stroke

Definition of EXHAUST STROKE. : the movement of an engine piston (as of a 4-stroke-cycle engine) that forces the used gas or vapor out through the exhaust ports.

atomization

Medical Definition of ATOMIZE. : to convert to minute particles or to a fine spray <an atomized medicated powder

stroke

an act of moving one's hand or an object across a surface, applying gentle pressure. "massage the cream into your skin using light upward stroke

internal combustion engine

an engine that generates motive power by the burning of gasoline, oil, or other fuel with air inside the engine, the hot gases produced being used to drive a piston or do other work as they expand.

bottom dead center

engineering) the position of the crank of a reciprocating engine when the piston is at its nearest point to the crankshaft Also called outer dead centre

loop scavenged

illustrates the gas exchange process for a loop-scavenged two stroke engine. As the exhaust ports open (EPO), a rapid drop in cylinder pressure is observed. A blowdown angle is defined as the angle between EPO and the angle at which cylinder and exhaust system pressures equalize.

top dead center

the furthest point of a piston's travel, at which it changes from an upward to a downward stroke.

compression ratio

the ratio of the maximum to minimum volume in the cylinder of an internal combustion engine.

power stroke

the stage of the cycle of an internal combustion engine in which the piston is driven outward by the expansion of gases.

intake stroke

the stroke in the cycle of an internal-combustion engine during which the fuel mixture is drawn in before compression.

compression stroke

the stroke in the cycle of an internal-combustion engine in which the gases are compressed before firing.

cross scavenged

to expel burnt gases from (the cylinder of an internal-combustion engine).

valve overlap

Valve overlap is when the intake valve opens before the exhaust valve closes
