history
History is the study of the recorded past.
Past
The past refers to everthing that has ever happened.
Judeo-Christian Tradition
This is one of the major elements of Western Civilization coming from the religions and cultures of the ancient Hebrews and early Christianity.
Greco-Roman Tradtion
This is one of the two major elements of Western Civilization coming from the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome.
prehistory
This is the period of time before written records. This time is before about 3000 BC.
Christian View of Time
This is the way that Western Civilization views time with the birth of Christ as the focal point.
BC/AD
This refers to how our view of time is divided. BC refers to the time before the birth of Christ. AD refers to the latin term "anno domini" meaning the year of our Lord or the time after the birth of Christ.
Western Civilization
This term refers to the civilization that evolved in Europe and in recent centuries spread to America.
Modern History
This term refers to the time period from 1500 AD to the present.
Ancient History
This term refers to the time period from about 3000BC to AD 500.
Medieval History
This term refers to the time period from about 500 AD to 1500 AD.
