General multiplication rule for any events

P(A and B)=P(A)xP(B/A) P(A and B)=P(B)xP(A/B)

Addition rule for mutually exclusive events A and B

P(A or B)=P(A)+P(B)

General addition rule for any events A and B

P(A or B)=P(A)+P(B)-P(A and B)

Conditional probability (when P(B)≠0)

P(A/B)=P(A and B)/P(B)

Dependent events

Two events are independent if the occurrence or nonoccurrence of one event does change the probability that the other event will occur.

Independent events

Two events are independent if the occurrence or nonoccurrence of one event does not change the probability that the other event will occur.

Mutually exclusive events

Two events are mutually exclusive or disjoint if they cannot occur together. In particular, events A and B are mutually exclusive if P(A and B)=0.

Multiplication rule for independent events

P(A and B)=P(A)xP(B)
