Elevation, depression, retraction, and upward rotation of scapula. Extends and laterally flexes neck.

Latissimus dorsi- action

Extends, adducts, and medically rotates the humerus.

Depresses ribs 9-12. Proprioception.

Elevates and downward rotates the scapula. Laterally flexes the neck.

Trapezius- insertion

Lateral third of clavicle, acromion process, and spine of scapula.

Medial border of scapula (at level of spine)

Rhomboid major- insertion

Medial border of scapula (inferior to spine)

Trapezius- Innervation

Motor: spinal accessory nerve (cranial nerve XI). Sensory: anterior rami of C3-C4.

Nuchal and supraspinous ligaments, spinous processes of T2-T5.

Nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T3

Rhomboid minor- action

Retracts and downward rotates scapula
