Why we create abstract descriptions

viewpoints, chunking, relationships, formulation

What is TRIZ?

ØSystematic, structured way of thinking, analyzing, and innovating ØA repeatable methodology ØExtensive knowledgebase

What are the levels of invention?

5 levels. Apparent solution, minor improvement, major improvement, new paradigm, discovery.

TRIZ is "Classical TRIZ" :

40 principles

viewpoints

Analyzing the system from several different viewpoints allows us to deeply understand different components, characteristics, and relationships.

level 1 of invention

Apparent solution: -Routine design problems solved by well-known methods. No invention needed.

formulation

Creating abstract descriptions, the useful/harmful function names, and identifying relationships allows us to put the system/problem into a form facilitating innovative idea generation.

Level 5 of invention

Discovery: -A rare scientific discovery or pioneering invention of an essentially new system.

relationships

Identifying atomic relationships between components in the system is necessary to create the formulator diagram.

In I-TRIZ we create the following abstract descriptions

Input/output cause/effect past/future supersystem/subsystem states useful functions harmful functions contradictions problem formulator diagram

level 3 of invention

Major improvement: -Fundamental improvements to an existing system using methods known outside the industry.

level 2 of invention

Minor improvement: -Minor improvements to an existing system using methods known within the industry.

Level 4 of invention

New paradigm -A new generation of a system that entails a new operating principle for performing the system's primary functions. Solutions are found more often in science than technology.

What are I-TRIZ operators?

Operators trigger you to think of possible solutions to a problem

what is innovation?

The incremental improvement of an existing object or system by the elimination or mitigation of some undesirable qualities or the enhancement of desirable qualities.

chunking

The process of analysis and forces us to break the system into correctly-sized pieces ("chunks") that will fit easily into the Problem Formulator Diagram later.

What does TRIZ stand for?

Theory of the solution of Inventive Problems

Abstract description:

a depiction of a system internationally focusing on some details while omitting other details

I-TRIZ is "Ideation TRIZ" :

continuation of the work after relocation to USA and creation of ideation international

anything decreasing ideality is a

contradiction

in diagrams barred arrow mean:

counteracts

anything increasing ideality is called

innovation

how long have TRIZ and I-TRIZ been in development?

over 60 years

in diagrams straight arrow mean:

produces
