How do you measure a patient for thigh high TED stockings?

*Measure circumference at widest part of calf (in cm or in), and then at widest part of mid-thigh. *Measure in length from bottom of heel to fold in buttocks making sure foot is neutral. *Check chart for appropriate size.

How do you measure a patient for knee high TED stockings?

*Measure in centimeter or inches from the crease behind the knee (popliteal fold) to the base of the heel. Be sure the foot is neutral and not flexed. *Then measure the circumference of the largest portion of the calf. *Check chart for appropriate size.

What should you do for morning care with patient with TED hose?

Always remove stockings for morning care and inspect the legs. It is important to assess the toes of the patient often to make sure that they are not having circulatory issues.

When should stockings be applied?

Applied in the morning before the patient is out of bed and while they are still SUPINE, and removed at bedtime and left off until morning.

What do TED stockings help with and what are they used for?

Patients who are on bed rest or immobile, or at risk for developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT). They provide continuous pressure to the lower extremities to keep blood from pooling and prevent blood clots from developing in the deep veins of the lower extremities.
