Balance

-Balance is the principle of art concerned with equalizing visual forces or elements in a work of art. -Visual balance causes you to feel that the elements have been arranged well. -Visual imbalance creates the opposite of balance but can still be effective. -Formal balance occurs when equal, or ver similar, elements are place on opposite sides of a central axis. - Symmetry are two halves of a balanced composition one identical, mirror images of each other. -Radical balance are forces or elements of a design come out from a central point.

Repetition and Pattern

-Every motif is an exact duplicate of the first unit and sometimes the repetitions vary from the original. -Pattern is used to describe a decorative surface design, pattern is two-dimensional decorative repetition. -Repetition of objects and elements can be an effective way to unify a work of art. -Proximity , or closeness, is another way to unify different shapes in work.

Proportion

-Proportion of art concerns with the size relationship of one part to another. -Scale is measured against a standard reference. -Hierarchical proportions is figures that are arranged in a work of arts so that scale indicates importance.

Rhythm

-Rhythm is the principle of art that indicates movement by the repetition. -Visual Rhythm is created by repeated positive shapes separated by negative shapes. -Motif is a unit that is repeated in Visual Rhythm.

Unity and Harmony

-Unity is the quality of wholeness or oneness that is achieved throughout the effective use of the elements and the principles of art. -Unity helps you concentrate on a visual image. -Simplicity is done by limiting the number of varieties of an element.

Emphasis

-Variety is a principle of art that adds interest to an artwork. -Emphasis is a principle of art that enhances variety because it creates areas that draws someone's attention. -variety is concerned with difference and contrast. -Harmony brings both variety and emphasis together. -Location is a method used to create focal point for emphasis. -Isolation creates a focal point that emphasizes one part of their work. -Harmony is the principle of art that creates unity by stressing the similarities of separate but related parts.

Movement

-Visual movement is the principle of art used to create the look and feeling of action and to guide the viewer's eyes throughout the work of art. -Visual Rhythm creates the sense of movement. -Rhythmic repetitions of shapes and lines that seem to move across the surface.
