Process of Transcription

-The enzyme RNA polymerase binds to the DNA molecule and causes it to unwind. -The RNA polymerase recruits complementary nucleotides to create a chain of RNA using the DNA as the template. -The new strand that is created is single stranded and codes for the same exact traits that the DNA codes for. -One change is that Thymine is no longer located in the chain, it is instead replaced by Uracil. -Another change is that the sugar group is a ribose, instead of a deoxyribose.

What is Transcription?

-This is a process in which mRNA is produced by using DNA as a template. -DNA, in eukaryotes, is located in the nucleus, but can not leave. -mRNA is a transcribed copy of DNA that is able to leave the nucleus and travel into the cytoplasm.

mRNA

-mRNA: Messenger RNA is a single, uncoiled strand that transmits information from DNA. It is the initial code used to make a protein during protein synthesis. -It serves as a template for the assembly of amino acids during protein synthesis.

DNA to mRNA

If you were given the following DNA Parent strand what would be the mRNA fragment created by the bottom strand of the DNA. ATCGCTAATTCGCGA TAGCGATTAAGCGCT
