In The Federalist, No. 10, James Madison explains how he felt about public interest groups, which he referred to as "factions." Do you agree with his description of the dangers that interest groups could pose to the government and the democratic process? Explain your answer and give examples.
Although dangers and problems arise from public interest groups, more good comes out of them. Without interest groups competing one group of people would control what decisions government make. You could argue that a minority group pushing for decisions that would be to their benefit is bad for the greater good of society, however, without interest groups the majority (white people) would control government and it our government would no longer be democracy.

Review the chart Steps in the Budget Process. Notice that the March-September box is empty. What happens to the budget between March and September? What are the factors that could affect how smoothly the budget process progresses during this time period?
During March-September the Congress reviews the president's proposed budget, develops its own budget, and approves spending and revenue bills. If the Congress can't meet deadlines a continuing resolution may be passed. If the government has a budget surplus from the previous year and the budget does't have to be as tight it can be made smoother and quicker.
Identify the obligations and duties of citizenship and explain how these are different from personal responsibilities. Discuss how our society depends on citizens to adhere to these obligations and duties, and evaluate when and how they may conflict with people's personal desires.
Duties of a citizen include voting, obeying the law, supporting the constitution, paying taxes, etc. These differ from a personal responsibility because they effect the citizen less directly. A personal responsibility would be something like exercise for example, which isn't for the good of society but for one's own benefit, rather. Although these obligations may combat personal desires they are needed in order for our government to run smoothly. If no one obliges to their duties, no one will be happy.

The government put a limit on the amount of money that an individual can contribute to the political campaign of a specific candidate running for office. Do you think this limit is fair, and why do you think the Founding Fathers did not think of the implications that campaign finance could have on the democratic process? Create a script for an election season television commercial to answer the question. Support your opinion with evidence and reasoning
I think the limit is fair because without restrictions wealthy billionaires would donate millions of dollars to big candidates and corruption would occur. The Founding Fathers probably didn't think of this because very few monopoly-men existed back then. In addition, this money is mostly used for advertising and in the Founding Fathers time there wasn't as much access to advertising methods such as the internet, tv, billboards, or email.
