One economic difference between the Dutch and French settlements in the Americas was how permanent the settlements were. The French opted to move around frequently and not create many permanent settlements, resulting in a less successful economy. The Dutch, on the other hand, established towns and other permanent settlements, which allowed the economy to grow.​

One economic structure that affected a state's ability to maintain structure was the tribute system. The Spanish used a form of tribute through the Mit'a system. The colonial Spanish forced the indigenous people into coercive labor using this tribute, this maintained and fueled the Spanish empire by controlling the indigenous people c.​

One example of how social structures affected a​state's ability to maintain order in settlements in the period 1450-1750 was displayed via the casta system in Spanish Colonial America. They made it difficult to distinguish between members of a social class due to contradictions in the strictness of the structure created by intermixing of classes. As a result, the social classes that were meant to hold order in the colonies actually ended up convoluting distinctions between its members and therefore creating disorder. ​

Explain ONE historical situation in the period 1450-1750 in which state power was challenged by internal pressures.

One example of power being challenged was between the centralized Russian Government and the Russian lower class. The Russian lower class formed many rebellions to challenge central Russian rule. This includes the Cossack and Peasant rebellions. This caused the Nobles to force Catherine the Great into further oppression of the lower class.​

One social or economic similarity between the Spanish and the French is that they both exploited the land overseas for resources to grow wealthy. They also were both heavily involved in converting the Native Americans to Christianity. For example, the Spanish converted many natives by setting up schools.​

Explain ONE difference between the economic development of Portugal and the economic development of China in the period c. 1450-c. 1750

Portugal focused on outward development like trading with other countries and expanding into the Indian Ocean, while China isolated their trade and focused on their own country. China prohibited the building of trade ships during this time.​

Explain ONE similarity between the trade in the Indian Ocean networks before the arrival of the Portuguese and the trade after their arrival c. 1450-c. 1750.

Regardless of Portuguese controlling Indian ocean trading ports, the merchants did not change their trading fee systems. Merchants before the arrival of the Portuguese had common taxes on products, ports, and trading fees which the people were used to. After the arrival of the Portuguese these practices continued.​

Describe ONE economic impact that the mit'a system had on Europe in the period c. 1450-c. 1750.

The mit'a system impacted Europe's economy by increasing the labor force for silver production. The Spanish transformed the mit'a system into a coercive labor forcing young men to work mining silver. This allowed Spain to collect a lot of silver for European trade. However, this eventually led to inflation of silver in Europe.​

Describe ONE political or economic difference between the British and French settlements in the Americas in the period C. 1250-c. 1750

Unlike the English, the French wanted to build good relations with the Native Americans. While the English demanded land from the Natives, the French traded with them for fur which improved their relations with the Native Americans. ​
