Inverse proportion/relationship

A relationship between two variables in which the product is a constant. When one variable increases the other decreases in proportion so that the product is unchanged. If b is inversely proportional to a, the equation is of the form b = k/a (where k is a constant). Equation: y = 60/x. y is inversely proportional to x.

Daltons law of partial pressure

Dalton's law of partial pressures states that the total pressure exerted by a mixture of gases is the sum of partial pressure of each individual gas present. Each gas is assumed to be an ideal gas.

Direct proportion/relationsip

Definition: Direct proportion is the relationship between two variables when their ratio is equal to a constant value. Examples: The volume of an ideal gas is directly proportional to the absolute temperature of the gas (Charles' Law)

Grahams law

Graham's law', known as Graham's law of effusion, was formulated by Scottish physical chemist Thomas Graham in 1848. Graham found experimentally that the rate of effusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the square root of the mass of its particles.

Charles law

Medical Definition of Charles' law. : a statement in physics: the volume of a given mass of gas at a constant pressure varies directly as its absolute temperature.

Gass pressure

Pressure is a force exerted by the substance per unit area on another substance. The pressure of a gas is the force that the gas exerts on the walls of its container.

Combined gas law

The combined gas law is a gas law that combines Charles's law, Boyle's law, and Gay-Lussac's law. There is no official founder for this law; it is merely an amalgamation of the three previously discovered laws.

Ideal gas law

ideal gas law. noun. A physical law describing the relationship of the measurable properties of an ideal gas, where P (pressure) × V (volume) = n (number of moles) × R (the gas constant) × T (temperature in Kelvin). It is derived from a combination of the gas laws of Boyle, Charles, and Avogadro.
