Scan (Wall sweep)

1. Automated Facilities: Scanning is only required for irregulars, floor packages, and walk-ins 2. Scan all packages and smalls bags, follow scan one load one method 3. One motion scan package and check for service level 4. Listen for tone to verify the package can be loaded 5. Do not turn or position package for scanning unless necessary 6. Dual loading, both loaders must read and load 7. Be sure, load only those packages that you are certain belong in the load

Incompatibles

1. Automated Facilities: all tubes, rolls, and packages less than 3/4 inches thick must be handled as incompatibles 2. Incorporate wooden crates, grouped tires, bicycles, exercise equipment, 5 gallon pales, etc into package walls and lock in with other packages 3. Long, not fragile-load horizontally at the side walls to prevent them from falling. DO NOT STAND UPRIGHT

10 Load Quality Elements

1. Cornerstone 2. Lock in each shelf on the right 3. Three level shelves 4. Loaded back to front at mid power zone 5. Natural T's no columns 6. Loaded to ceiling 7. Small containerized 8. Proper irregulars and smalls placement 9. Retainer in ready position or flush on wall 10. No overgoods or damages

Building Walls

1. Maintain 2 ft walk isle between the face of the wall and end of load device when standing on floor 2. Position labels up, out towards the rear, or in towards the center of trailer 3. Always attempt to place opening of the box up 4. Orient boxes so that the ribs or furrows, flutes, are vertical to prevent damage to a package 5. Follow orientation instructions printed on box, arrows or this side up Option 1-Cornerstone package 18-24 inches in depth and 12-24 inches in height *Cornerstone loaded in left corner against previous wall, no space between package and previous wall *Select and load cornerstone for next wall at anytime while building present wall Option 2-Primary shelf, continue bottom shelf left to right keeping front of wall nearly flush Option 3- Secondary or new shelf, if next selected package is taller than primary shelf, start new shelf Option 4-Fill empty space or level shelves, if package is shorter than primary shelf *Level shelves or fill empty space.Do not exceed height of shelf *Determine height of next shelf, consider size of available packages *Tighten or lock in shelf with last package on right of the wall *Use of T's or bridges will aid in weight distribution *Build at least 3 shelves per wall to avoid columns Option 5-Large light for top, save large light package for top of wall, heavier packages at bottom *Mid power zone, load from back to front, filling all available space *Use load stand to safely place packages above your power zone *Lock in packages at top of trailer, utilizing ceiling ribs

Select Package

1. Maintain mental picture of space available in the package wall 2. Select the next package to load from one of the next five available 3. Automated Facilities: Loaders are required to validate against load charts (read one, load one) 4. Minimize walking by letting equipment bring the packages to you

Packages Requiring Special Handling

1. Next Day Air, International Ground, 2nd Day Air, & 3 Day Select, unscannable packages 2. Retapes and Rewraps- follow retape procedures, Do Not Load 3. Mispulls- Remove from trailer, place in designated area, T/W pickoff

Prepare to Load

1. Obtain load charts 2. (Wall sweep) Obtain scanner and set it up for scanning 3. (Wall sweep) Logon and enter correct information 4. Move to assigned work position 5. Check work area for packages, overgoods, and loose labels 6. Sweep floor of all empty trailers, initial lineup 7. Check trailer for leaks and holes, report problems to supervisor 8. Place retainer strap in retainer ready position. Secure the top left and top right fitting in the highest slots on left side of trailer, nearest the door 9. Position load equipment, rollers, loader 24 or 20, chutes 10. Obtain load stand as dictated by conditions

Prepare to Wrap Up Trailer

1. Seal control pouch should be accessible to the driver while standing at ground level for all loads 2. Canadian loads- Haz mat pouch and seal control should be accessible to the driver 3. Loads leaving at 100%- Last wall is built flush with retainer strap slots, this wall may be deeper than 18-24 inches 4. Retainer straps must fit tightly against last full wall 5. Use retainer bars in trailers not equipped with retainer straps 6. Place retainer bar securely against upper portion of last wall 7. Return or store supplies and place in designated area 8. Secure all equipment, scanner, load stand, etc

Smalls Bags Handling

1. Smalls bags should be loaded as they arrive in the trailer 2. Automated Facilities: Smalls bags arriving in totes (less than 50% full) read label then remove the bag from the tote, load the bag, place the tote box aside and remove as you exit the trailer 3. Smalls bags should be loaded into walls beginning at mid power zone and above. Avoid loading smalls bags on the floor or the bottom of walls. 4. You may receive smalls bags at times when it is not convenient to load them. In these cases, check the bag, set them aside until there is a more appropriate time to load 5. Scan the bag label or tag and verify bag belongs with that destination

Characteristics of a Skilled Loader

1. Uses hand to surface, control of package until placed on next surface 2. Alerts supervisors and others of changing conditions 3. Safely uses all manual and mechanical load devices

Hazardous Materials

1. Verify package can be loaded, check poster to be sure 2. Check for SLIC, date, and auditors initials 3. Press F3 to select HAZ function, scan package listening for confirmation tone 4. Canadian Destinations Only- pull one copy of the shipping paper and place it into the Hazardous Material pouch- adjacent HAZ MAT prohibited poster 5. Load hazardous material package on the floor with arrows pointing up 6 Block and brace with non Haz Mat packages to prevent movement in transit 7. Packages containing different HAZ MATs should be separated by one non HAZ MAT on all sides

Planned Routine

1. Wrap up starts at beginning of sort, keep grating clear 2. Move from load to load within your assignment without direction 3. (Wall Sweep) Scan the ULD code on inside of the trailer so all packages will be linked 4. Utilize walk into and out of trailer to load irregulars and straighten packages 5. Do not double handle packages 6. Load packages in a manner that leaves unobstructed exit walkway
