Urban Heat
* An urban heat island is a city that is a lot warmer than the rural areas surrounding it. *The temperatures can be as much as 10 degrees higher than the rural areas * Formed as a result of urbanization and human activities.
1
* Urban development replaces trees and other vegetation with heat absorbing surfaces such as building and roads. *On the other hand, human activities such as transportation and manufacturing can expel and trap heat in an urban environment.
2
* Furthermore, urban heat islands can have a negative impact on the environment * Because they cause an increase in energy usage and an air quality in urban areas.
4
* If you look at my poster board, you will see graphs and pictures that show these practices * Defiantly the last one, can help in cooler air temperatures in urban environments and minimizes the presence of urban heat islands globally.
