- proper infection control (handwashing, PPE) - keep wound clean and covered - do not share items - clean surfaces well - wash contaminated laundry
Clinical manifestations
- red, warm skin around a wound - soreness, swelling, and drainage from a wound - fever, chills, and body aches - weakness - cough
Risk factors
- surgery or hospital stay - certain long-term antibiotics - invasive procedures and devices - a weak immune system - not washing hands properly - underlying health conditions - previous infections - recent exposure to vancomycin antibiotics
