Conditional (Definition)

Expresses what might happen IF something else happens 1st. Something DEPENDS on something else happening. "If..., then..." Ex: 1. If students are well-behaved, then we may have free time. 2. Unless you finish your homework, then you will not be allowed to use your phone. 3. If it rains, practice will be cancelled.

Subjunctive (Definition)

Shows that an action is uncertain (like a wish or a suggestion) *WERE will be used in the sentence. Ex: 1. If we were to go to the movies, then we would get popcorn. 2. If you were to bring a dog to school, you would have to take him home immediately. 3. I wish I were two inches taller.

Infinitive (Definition)

This is the most basic form of the verb. It begins with the word "to", so it is NOT conjugated. -Used to make a comment or judgement. -To show purpose of the verb. -As the subject of the sentence. Ex: I was nervous TO SING in front of the audience.

Interrogative (Example)

1. Did you complete you project? 2. Did you like the concert?

Imperative (Example)

1. Finish your project. 2. Next time, come with me.

Indicative (Example)

1. I didn't finish my project. 2. The concert was fun.

Conditional (Example)

1. If I don't finish my project, then I will fail. 2. If you go, then I'll get better tickets.

Subjunctive (Example)

1. If I were to finish my project, I would work on other assignments. 2. If you were to go, we would have even more fun.

Participle (Example)

1. The RETIRING teacher enjoyed her party. 2. I refused to eat the BURNED dinner. 3. FROZEN blueberries are his favorite dessert.

Gerund (Example)

1. They are afraid of SWIMMING in the sea. 2. We insist on COOKING dinner ourselves. 3. WORKING all summer really stinks.

Infinitive (Example)

1. When I entered middle school, I just wanted TO SURVIVE. 2. I refused TO EAT the burned dinner.

Imperative (Definition)

A demand, order, or telling someone what to do. (Think Bossy) Ex: 1. Go to your room. 2. Work on your playlist. 3. Clean up the mess.

Indicative (Definition)

A statement, or a matter-of-fact. Ex: 1. The bus was late. 2. The project is due on Monday. 3. My chromebook's battery is dying.

Participle (Definition)

A verb that works/looks like an adjective. It can be past (end -ed) or present (end -ing) tense. Ex: The BAKING bread smelled delicious.

Gerund (Definition)

A verb that works/replaces a noun. Hint: It will end in -ing (NOT to be confused with a present participle). Ex: RUNNING is fun exercise.

Verb

A word that shows action or state of being. Ex: Action-Run, jump, swim, think, draw, write, etc. State of Being-is, are, was, were, will, etc.

Interrogative (Definition)

Asking a question. Ex: 1. When is the project due? 2. Why didn't you do your homework? 3. Did you study the content assessment?
