Intrapersonal Communication
one of the 5 levels of public speaking. Internal thoughts; communicating with oneself
Interpersonal Communication
one of the 5 levels of public speaking. Typically between 2 people and it depends on the relationship between them
Plagiarism
one of the unethical elements in communication. Involves stealing information from other sources and claiming it one's own without citing any sources
The Communication Elements Model
states that the speaker "sends" their message to the listener, who then interprets the speaker's message and provides feedback
Ethics
the sector of philosophy that revolves around morals, justice, virtues, right/wrong. This plays a role in public speaking when it comes to honesty and plagiarism
Cognitive restructuring
type of therapy/strategy process in which negative thoughts are replaced by positive ones in order to ease communication anxiety
Critical Thinking
a process of evaluation in order to determine reasonable future actions
The Triangle of Meaning
model developed by communication theorists, Richards and Ogden to explain how language works. The triangle's 3 points are thought (top), word/symbol, and thing/referent (connected at the bottom with a dotted line). This demonstrates people give words their own meaning and also that 2 people can look at a certain object and think/feel differently about it.
