Martyrs

People who suffer death because of their beliefs. The Church has canonized many martyrs as saints.

Doctor of the Church

a title given by the Catholic Church to saints whom they recognize as having been of particular importance, particularly regarding their contribution to theology or doctrine.

A calling from God to fulfill a particular purpose or mission in life

Saint Therese of Avila

A Doctor of the Church. A reformer, her books are an important part of the Spanish Renaissance.

Saint Jerome

A Doctor of the Church. Best known for his translation of the Bible from Greek into Latin.

A Doctor of the Church. Was a staunch opponent of Aryanism.
