Why did the Nineteenth Amendment pass during the Progressive Era but not before?
The Nineteenth Amendment Passed during the Progressive Era because of the efforts of the Women's Trade Union League, the National American Suffrage Association who developed a strategy focusing on state voting right laws & the ratification of an amendment in the constitution, and also the efforts of Alice paul, who lead the National Woman's party, who organized marches and protests on the streets. All of these efforts pushed for President Woodrow Wilson to support the suffrage amendment in January of 1918, allowing women to vote when the 19th amendment was ratified. Since all of these organizations were created to support women's suffrage and because of strong, empowered, women leaders like Alice Hill, Jane Addams, Frances Willard, and Carrie A. Nation, the 19th amendment passed during the Progressive Era and not before it. - it was before WW1 President Wilson wanted to provide balance and support for women -there was a lot of awareness
