What is the role of intention while doing good deeds? Give an example?

Once there was a delay in the plane, to take off for about 3 hours. On inquiring, they said that there is a small mouse seen there. If we fly with that may cause a plane crash. The same small mouse is the Riya' in the enormous good deed. Suppose its added in the intention would ruin the whole purpose of that noble cause. It is Crucial to aware and understands its dangers and damages.

What are some ahadith of Prophet Muhammad (S) about hypocrisy?

Prophet Muhammad (S) critisized hypocrisy in a number of hadiths. Here are a few: 1. "There will come a time for people when their inward aspects are filthy, and their outward appearances seem charming. Because of their greed in this world, [they will not be] gaining rewards with Allah. Their religion will be hypocrisy. They do not have a fear of Allah, and He will punish them with a grievous chastisement. Then, whenever they call on Allah like (the behavior of) a drowned person, their supplication will never be accepted". 2. "On the Day of Judgement, the hypocrite will be called by four names: Oh pagan, Oh sinner, Oh treacherous, and Oh loser; your deed was of no avail, and your recompense was canceled; there is no rescue for you today; ask your recompense from the one for whom you used to act". 3. "Actions are to be judged by intentions. There is surely for man what he intends. So whosoever fights for Allah in the Holy War, his reward is with Allah, the Almighty, the Glorious; and whosoever's fight is for this world which he seeks or even for a hobble rope (of a camel) to gain, he may have only that (and no more)."

What are the supplications to avoid the sins mentioned in this Surah?

Supplications: - O Lord! Purity in intention is very difficult. Help us on this path. -O Lord! We seek from You such a Faith that will cause us to think that but for Your recompense and punishment on Your Way, the pleasure or hatred of people will be indifferent for us. -O Lord! Forgive us whatever sin we have committed on this path.

What were qualities of Abu Sufiyan and his family?

Abu Sufiyan's bad behavior and hypocrisy was notorious among the people of Hijaz. Abu Sufiyan's wife was Hind, who ate the liver of Hazrat Hamza (ra). Abu Sufiyan's sister was Umm Jamil, and she is wife of Lahab. His evil actions and bad qualities were just like those of his wife Hinda, the "liver-eater" (who ate the liver of Hazrat Hamzah(ra), the Holy Prophet's uncle), who knew no bounds of modesty or decency, whether with her people or with strangers. His sister, Umm Jamil, played an important role in hindering or tormenting Prophet Muhammad (S). She was the wife of Abu Lahab and is mentioned by Allah(SWT) in the Qur'an in Surah Lahab, ayah four as the bearer of fuel for the fire. 111-4. "And his wife, the bearer of the firewood," اور اس کی بیوی جو لکڑی ڈھونے والی ہے All the family of Umayyah (Hamamah, Rabi'ah, Hind, Abu Sufyan, Mu'awiyah, and their grandparents) is mentioned by 'the cursed tree' the Qur'an (surah, 14, ayah 15). 15. "And they (the prophets as well as the believers) sought victory, but every obstinate oppressor remained deprived. اور( پیغمبروں نے) ہم سے فتح کا مطالبہ کیا اور ان سے(دشمني) عناد رکھنے والے سرکش افراد ذلیل اور رسوا ہوگئے

What is the message of Allah(SWT) in Surah 4, verse 142? 142. "Verily the hypocrites seek to trick Allah, but He is tricking them. And, when they stand up for prayer they stand up lazily; showing off to the people, and they do not remember Allah save a little."

According to this verse, hypocrites try to trick Allah (SWT). This means that they are passive aggresively mocking the religion through undermining Allah's (SWT) commands. As Imam Raza (as) explains this verse that Allah (SWT) would retaliate (gives the retribution of their trick) by giving a divine retribution.--' عذاب الہی-- جیسے کہ امام رضا علیہ السلام فرماتے ہیں: چونکہ اللہ ان کی چال کا بدلہ دیتا ہے ، لہذا اس عذاب الہی کو 'چال' کہا جاتا ہے There are three signs of hypocrites according to this verse: 1-Their prayers are unfocused, which results in a lack of attention towards details. (بےحسی) 2-Their intention of performing good deeds is to gain validation (show off) from the people. A way to tell if one is doing an activity with the intention of validation is if one would stop doing this activity for others if others would criticize them. 3- Their memory of Allah (SWT) is limited to only religious activities, especially community activities. In their personal lives, Allah (SWT) is forgotten.

How did Umayyad's hypocrisy cause strife and conflict to Islam and the Muslims, after Prophet Muhammad(S)?

After Prophet Muhammad (S), the pure Islamic rule became corrupted, and at the same time the caliphate was being usurped. The Umayyads were gradually revealing their evil designs, as we have seen and read in history about the kind of strife and conflict they caused to Islam and the Muslims. For example, Abu Sufyan was engaged in a group of men to kill Hazrat Uthman (ra) and lay the blame on Imam Ali (a.s.) who had never caused harm, even to an ant. Imam Ali (a.s.) said: "Even if the whole world were given to me; on condition that I take a straw from the mouth of an ant, I would not do it." Imam Ali (a.s.) words and actions tear away the veil of deceit and hypocrisy: "The Umayyads have not really accepted Islam; they have only covered their faces with Islam's mask." And on another occasion: "They have hidden their kufr (disbelief) to better fight against the very fundament of Islam." 'Ammar ibn Yasir, the faithful friend of Imam Ali (a.s.) , said: "When the Umayyads appeared, all good departed, and the evil of jahiliyyah returned." Thus, it has become clear to us as who were the true enemies of the Prophet (S), Imam Ali (a.s.) and their families. This shows how Umayyad's role as 'hypocrites' played in hindering the spread of Islam.

How does the obligatory prayers prepare the Muslims towards the One time Call of Imam Zamana (ajtf)?

As previously discussed, one sign of deniers of the Day of Judgment is their carelessness towards offering their obligatory salaat. This is also reflected in their response to the Call and Appearance the Last Imam(ajtf). One's response to the daily prayers, the Call from Allah (SWT), could be predictive about one's response to the Call to Imam Mahdi (ajtf). 1. The one who delays offering their daily prayers by assigning their prayers as one of their lowest priorities would also delay their response to the Call (ندا ) of Imam Zamana (ajtf). 2. The one who offers their prayers at the prescribed (regular) time would provide a basic response to the Imam's (ajtf) Call. 3. The one who offers their prayers at the prime time (Awwal Waqt) will answer the Call (ajtf) since they have prioritized it. (say yes to Imam's (ajtf) Call at his priority) 4. The One who is ready to offer their prayers by waiting ahead of time are the 'Illyin- عِلِّيِّينَ(the Most High ones). They are the chosen ones since they prepared themselves using all their resources to answer (say Labaik) the Call of the Imam (ajtf).

Explain the family tree of Abd e Manaf: the grandparent of Prophet Muhammad(S) and Abu Safiyan?

Before we begin to consider the nature of Abu Sufyan's character, we must go back a few years to a time before the Prophet Muhammad (S) 's birth time (S) and become familiar with the grandparents of these two men. 'Abd e Manaf( ماناف)was one of the grand-parents of both the Prophet (S) and Abu Sufyan. It was into 'Abd Manaf's home that the baby twins were born. The toe of one of the twins was attached to the forehead of the other. The two twins were taken to a soothsayer to see what he thought of the matter. After seeing them, the Soothsayer predicted something extraordinary. The Soothsayer predicted, if separated, the twins, strife, and bloodshed would reign between their offspring for as long as this world existed. Because of the enormous problems, parents decided that twins should be separated. One of them was named Hashim and the other 'Abd-Shams. It is said that the toe of Hashim was attached to the forehead of 'Abd -Shams. Later, 'Abd Shams had no children. He adopted a butcher's apprentice called Umayyah and gave him all rights of inheritance. At this point, the two forces of truth and falsehood were set, the one opposed to the other. On the one side stood Hashim, a peaceful man, fond of his friends and always entertaining guests. On the other hand, Umayyah, because his birth parents were not known, it is said that he came originally from the west. He was a spiteful, malicious, and impolite man. At that time 'Abd Manaf was responsible for guarding and taking care of the Ka'ba. After him, the responsibility transferred to his son Hashim whose devotion and hard-working nature made him more suitable. Umayyah, the adopted son of Abd Shams, became jealous with his cousin Hashim . His jealousy was no different from that of kabeel and Abeel. Umayyah, this son of unknown parentage, by trickery and deceit, used every opportunity to draw together a group of persons around him to destroy or undermine Hashim's social and political influence. Unfortunately, this good generous man Hashim died at an early age living behind him, a son called Shaybah('Abdul-Muttalib). He was living with his mother in another house in Medina. Hashim also had another brother named Muttalib; like Hashim himself, he was a very well-mannered, generous man. The responsibility for guarding the Kaaba was entrusted to him. Muttalib invited his young nephew, Shaybah(Abdul-Muttalib), from Medina and brought him up with loving care in Mecca. For this reason, he is called 'Abdul-Muttalib, that is a servant or slave of Muttalib. But let us return to Umayyah. Umayyah had many sons, who were all similar to Umayyah himself in their intentions and behavior. Moreover, all had qualities of Umayyah, but Harb manifested to the utmost degree. Thus it was that the two forces, one satanic the other merciful, were again opposed to each other. Harb, at the instigation of Abu Sufyan, made plans to kill 'Abdul-Muttalib, however, he was unsuccessful in his attempt and had to flee. The conflict between them continued in this way until Allah(SWT) gave 'Abdul-Muttalib several worthy sons; one of them was Abdullah. And his son was the noble Prophet Muhammad (S). The two opposed parties and the two forces of truth and falsehood continued, thereby confronting each other: on the one side Abu Sufyan and, on the other hand, the noble Prophet Muhammad(S), the Messenger of Allah (S). https://www.al-islam.org/abu-sufyan-historical-stories-children-5/changing-faces-abu-sufyan

How should we view others after learning these lessons on Riya'?

Conclusion • The Prophet (s) said: "One who performs an act that is liked by God in order to show off to people, and in secret manifests qualities that are not liked by God, he shall encounter the anger and wrath of God." "جو شخص ایسا کام انجام دیتا ہے جس کو خدا نے لوگوں کو پسند کرنے کے ل is پسند کیا ہو ، اور خفیہ طور پر ایسی خصوصیات ظاہر کرتی ہیں جن کو خدا پسند نہیں کرتا ہے ، اسے خدا کے قہر اور غضب کا سامنا کرنا پڑے گا۔" However, the critical point is that hypocrisy comes from intentions, which means that we cannot judge someone else to be a hypocrite, but only ourselves. Also, you cannot judge people to be pious, only by their appearance. We should treat everyone nicely, try not to judge anyone, and leave everything to Allah (SWT) because Allah (SWT) knows everyone's situation

What did Imam Ali(as) say about talking about personal affairs in front of others?

Don't discuss blessings that you have in front of those who are deprived of it.

How to combat riya'? What are ways to identify and combat riya'?

Evaluation • A person suffering from this grave disease is usually unaware that it has penetrated his personality and made his deeds worthless. He imagines that his actions are for pleasing God, but they are serving his interests in reality. Be your physician, Compare your feelings when performing an action in public, and then doing the same action when others' chance of being seen by others is least. • DiagnosisIf you are acquiring knowledge, falling prey to Riya' Ask yourself: If a friend of mine or someone else had done the same feat in front of others or done it better, would I have felt the same way? Was this action of mine only for God? Do some testing to know the source of Riya's acquiring habit and have an acceptance to further action of treatment. •Treatment_Take a firm step to get rid of Riya' for it is leading you to hell. Eradicate the desire to get praised by creatures for the actions that are done for God's sake. Do all your acts as a duty to God. Pray frequently to God Almighty to purify your heart of the stains of polytheism and hypocrisy and clean it off the rust of the world's love, which is the source of all vices. __________________________________ Riya' is a form of hypocrisy where the goal is accomplished only to be admired by the people, especially for desirable qualities. For example, one may partake in activities, so they can be praised as smart, leader-like, organized, strong, hard-working, loyal, confident, or funny. First, acknowledge that the validation from others is a strong motivator to accomplish tasks. Second, accept that there is the possiblity that for some tasks, you may only perform it to be acknowledged by others. Evaluation: Third, compare your feelings when doing something with the intention to share with others versus doing something that will not be seen by others. Fourth, check if the result of comparing your acts to others causes resentment. Some good questions are: -"If someone did what I just did better than me, would I start feeling negative?" -"If somebody did what I was supposed to do and was acknowledged for it, would I get angry about them getting acknowledged or them doing my task? -"Who do I admire and why? Do I get angry when other people seem to be getting closer to that ideal if I am struggling? Or am I happy for that person for reaching their goals?" -"Would I find it hard to celebrate the success of other people around me? Would that make me feel inadequate?" Steps to move forward: Fifth, have positive secrets.-Try doing more positive actions that are in private, which would not be discussed or shared with anyone. Sixth, celebrate other people's success more often to make them feel good. This can be asking questions about their process on reaching their goals or about their theories and explanations. The main point is to push yourself from the center of attention to make yourself feel good to making them feel good. Seventh, don't gossip. Gossiping or slandering to put down the reputation of others to make yourself feel better as a human being is a means to Riya' (Showing off), which is a form of Shirk. Gossiping makes one lose their previous good deeds, and Riya' nullifies upcoming good deeds. If possible, try to give excuses for the other person's actions or attempt to redirect the conversation. Eighth, take it easy. Comparing yourself to others all the time is tiring. Instead, enjoy the oppportunities you have and give your gratitude to Allah (SWT). This will lead to much more happiness and gratitude.

How hidden is the Riya to be seen by Ibn Abbas?

Ibn 'Abbas narrated a Hadeeth: "Riyaa is more hidden than a black ant on a black stone in a dark night." (Tafseer ibn Katheer)

How Imam Baqir(as) explained about how is being happy and appreciated for performing good deeds ?

Imam al‑Baqir (a) was asked about the status of a person who became happy when others observed good deeds that he had performed. Imam (as) replied: "There is no harm in it; there is no one who does not like his good deeds to be known to people, but he should not perform them [solely] for the sake of attracting their admiration." [Al-Kulayni, al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 297] intention---

As an overview, what are five characteristics of the Deniers of the Day of Judgement in this Surah?

In Surah Ma'un, the deeds and characteristics of the deniers of the Hereafter are: 1- Despising orphans, 2- Refusing to feed the needy, 3- Being careless about the prescribed prayers, 4- Fake religiousness 5- Not being cooperative with people when giving them insignificant materials.

What is another sign of the deniers of Judgement Day mentioned in the verse 6? 6. "Those who (want but) to be seen (of men)," وہ جو دکھاوا کرتے ہیں

In verse 6, another sign of the deniers of Judgement Day is mentioned. This sign would be to show one's religiousness in public but to neglect religion in private. This often occurs in the pursuit of benefits through making a strong religious impression. This can be reading the Qur'an as a means to gather respect from others in the community (without the intention to read only for Allah (SWT)). However, actions that do not benefit one's public image are forgotten. This omission of key actions, such as helping the poor, indicate to a weak intention to serve Allah (SWT) or fear the Day of Judgement.

What does the term "ma'un" means in verse 7 ? 7. "But refuse (to supply) (even) neighborly needs."

In verse 7, the term "ma'un" comes from "ma'n" which means a little thing. This can mean things of insignificant price that people, especially neighbors, take from each other like salt, water, matches for fire, dishes, and some basic necessities of life. A person who withholds giving such insignificant things to others is a very miserly, faithless one. These things do not cost too much but are beneficial to needy. So when they refuse to give them, this produces some notable difficulties in their lives. Some believe that the purpose of "ma'un" is alms(charity) because alms is often a little in comparison with total wealth.

What is the mindset of people who constantly show off in social media like?

People who post all the time can be constantly seek approval from others. This would lead to framing themselves as happy and leading their own lives even when it is not the case. This was the cause of "Facebook Depression".

When is it permissible to do good deeds in front of others?

Sometimes it is essential to motivate others for a good cause; for example, if there is charity involved.Your initiation to do charity should be fundamentally dependent on your intention. This may very well motivate others towards a good cause.

What are five characteristics of the people who are ready and waiting for the reappearance of Imam Zamana (ajtf) to join his army?

The followers of Imam Zamana (ajtf), have the following five characteristics 1. Helpful to orphans 2. Ready to feed the needy 3. Timely and careful with Prescribed Prayers 4. Never perform Riya' (Show off) 5. Cooperative and humble with people when doing small tasks or favors. This Surah gives the message that neglecting the intention of "Doing for Allah(SWT)" and expecting benefits and rewards from "others", affects the sincerity of a religious or pious action, which may lead to hypocrisy.

What are the three stages of hypocrisy (riya')?

The stages of Riya' • The first stage: A person makes a display of his religious beliefs and shows off (نمائش-پرچار) his knowledge of religious teachings to project himself as an honest person in the eyes of people to gain their confidence and respect. • The second stage: The individual demonstrates his piety and virtuous deeds in public, and then he behaves in such a manner as if he is free from all vices. The aim behind such actions is to win the confidence of others. For example, a person may give charity or claim high spirituality to gain respect and praise. • The third stage: He wants to be acquainted with the religion to earn the highest amount of praise. This would be through doing acts that are not in public, so that they can be boasted about later on. He thus wishes to win the hearts of people by attracting their attention towards himself through religion. - Imam al‑Sadiq (a) said that Hazrat Ali (as) said: "There are three distinguishing features of one accustomed to riya': he expresses joy and cheerfulness when he is greeted by people; he becomes cheerless and sullen when alone; and he wishes to be praised for everything he does." "ریا میں عادی ایک کی تین امتیازی خصوصیات ہیں: جب لوگوں کے ذریعہ ان کا استقبال کیا جاتا ہے تو وہ خوشی اور خوشی کا اظہار کرتا ہے۔ جب وہ تنہا ہوتا ہے تو وہ بے ہودہ اور غمزدہ ہوجاتا ہے۔ اور اس کی خواہش ہے کہ وہ اپنے ہر کام کی تعریف کرے۔

In verse 7, which sign of the Deniers of the Day of Judgement is mentioned? 7. "But refuse (to supply) (even) neighborly needs."

There is another sign of the deniers of Judgement Day is mentioned in verse 7. This sign would be to hypocrates who refuse to supply neighborly needs. Also, these people tend to overly showoff their religious acts for public perception. However, when it comes to helping their fellow neighbors, especially when not publicized, they refuse to help them out with these small things. Another way to say this is: whatever is for Allah, they do to show people, and whatever is for people, they refuse to give them. Thus, they pay no right to its owner who is Allah (swt).

What did Prophet Muhammad (S) say about the person who refuses to help their neighbors' needs?

We conclude this subject with a tradition from the Holy Prophet (S): "[To] the person who refuses to supply his neighborly needs, on the Day of Judgement, Allah will refuse to give him His goodness and leaves him to himself. And what a bad case it is for the one whom He leaves to himself".

How Imam Sadiq(as) explained the term shirk in Surah Kahf verse 110? 18:110. "Say: 'I am only a mortal like you. It is revealed unto me that your God is (only) One God. Therefore, whoever hopes to meet his Lord (in Hereafter) let him do righteousness, and make none sharer of the worship due unto his Lord." .

• Imam al-Sadiq (a) was asked about the word shirk يُشْرِكْ in Surah Al-Kahf - Verse 110 `. Imam al‑Sadiq (a) replied, 1-`The acts of a person who performs good deeds not for the sake of being blessed with the vision of his God, but rather aiming to be considered as pious by the people, and so that people should know about his deeds [will cause that person to be] counted among polytheists who have ascribed partners to God.' a 2-The Imam (a) continued: `There is no one in the world who has concealed his good deeds and after a passage of time God has not revealed them. And there is no one in the world who could conceal his wicked deeds for ever, for they will be exposed by God before he passes away from the world. [Al-Kulayni, al-Kafi, vol. In another narration in regards to shirk, Imam Sadiq (as) said, "Riya' (Showing off) in any of its forms amounts to shirk(polytheism). Verily, one who works for the people, his reward lies with them, and one who works for God, his reward lies with God." 4-When Imam Sadiq (as) was discussing shirk with one of his companions, he (as) said, "O Zurarah, anyone whose actions are for the sake of people, the reward is for the people (to give it). Every hypocrisy is polytheism". 7 جو شخص لوگوں کے لیے عمل کرے گا اس کا اجر و ثواب لوگوں پر ہی ہو گا۔ اے زرارہ ! ہر ریا شرک ہے
