14. Know the anatomy of a leaf and chloroplast and how it relates to plant life functions.
Stroma
-Thick fluid within chloroplasts -Contains enzymes involved in synthesis of carbohydrates during photosynthesis. -analogus to mito matrix
Thylakoid
-Third membrane system; suspended in the stroma -flattened sacs -Segregates the stroma from the thylakoid space inside these sacs. -Stacked in some places = grana
Mesophyll
-Tissue on the interior of a leaf -contains chloroplasts
Roots
-Water is absorbed through these and delivered to leaf veins.
Chlorophyll
-green pigment that gives leaves their color -in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts
Chloroplasts
-membrane bound organelle -photosynthesis takes place -has an envelope of two membranes surrounding stroma
Stomata
-microscopic pores -carbon dioxide enters the leaf, and oxygen exits
Veins
-use to export sugar to roots and other nonphotosynthetic parts of the plant
Photosynthesis
conversion of light energy to chemical energy
