How did the Ramrod gets it name?

Sergeant Major Samuel C. Green broke his baton when he struck an enemy soldier in the head. The Flagstaff from the captured fortress was used to replaced the broken wood on the baton. The baton is considered the symbol of the Regiment nickname: Ramrods and is the most cherished regimental relic

Describe the 10th MTN Division Shoulder Patch

The shoulder patch was approved on January 7, 1944. The Blue background of the patch and crossed bayonets represent the Infantry. The crossed bayonets form a Romain numeral 10 for the units number. The overall shape of the patch is a powder keg representing the division explosive power. Red, white and blue suggest the national colors, the word Mountain aid white on a blue tab affixed directly above the patch

What's 2-2 History

• 2nd oldest IN Regiment in the Army, formed in 1808 • Primary concerned with manning and constructing forts in the Great Lakes • Assigned to the Army of the Potomac in the Civil War and fought at the First Battle of Bull Run • 1944 in WWll the unit landed in Normandy to become part of GEN Patton's 3rd Army leading the way in Operation Cobra • In 276 days of combat 2-2 had captured 275 cities and towns, crossed 20 rivers, and captured over 22,000 enemy personnel • 1965 2-2 was reassigned to the 1st IN DIV AND deployed to Vietnam • When the 1st DIV stood down in 1970, 2nd BN's colors were cased and the soldier reassigned to other unit or sent home to be discharged • In the following years 2-2 was activated and deactivated multiple times until 1996 where it began deployments to Kosovo until 2002 • Between 2008 and 2013 2-2 deployed the Afghanistan 3 times and was deactivated after the final deployment • 2-2 was then reactivated at Fort Polk as part of the 3rd BDE, 10th MTN DIV.

10th MTN Division History

•November 1939 Finnish ski soldiers destroyed two Russian armor division by using harsh terrain. • Charles Doe, President of the National Ski Patrol convinced the War Department of the need for similar troops. • On July 10, 1944 the unit was constituted as the 10th light division (Alpine) • On Nov 6th 1944 the unit was redesignated to the 10th Mountain Division - same month the blue and white mountain tabvwas authorized for wear • June 1948, the division was rebuilt and activated in Fort Riley, Kansas to serve as a training division • In 1954, the division was converted into a combat division once again but didn't regain it's mountain status. • Feb 13, 1985 10th MTN Division (light infantry) was reactivated at Fort Drum, New York • 10th mountain has 3 medal of Honor recipients • Division was participated in WW2, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq • 10th Mountain Division is the most actively deployed unit since 2001
