A Solar Eclipse
What is a solar eclipse?
It happens when the moon is blocking the sun's light or a location on the earth's surface is passing under the moon's shadow.
When does a partial solar eclipse occur?
It occurs when only part of the sun is covered by the moon which appears to take a "bite" out of the sun.
When does an annular solar eclipse occur?
It occurs when the moon appears smaller than the sun.
When does total solar eclipse occur?
It takes place when the sun becomes completely covered by the moon.
Why does the eclipse seem to travel from place to to another?
The earth is rotating on an axis.
When does a hybrid solar eclipse occur?
The eclipse is annular when it begins and ends. However, as a result of the curvature of the Earth's surface, the apparent size of the moon increases in size till it is just enough to produce a total eclipse.
What is another name for a hybrid solar eclipse?
annular/total eclipse
What are the four different kinds of solar eclipses?
partial eclipse, annular eclipse, total eclipse, hybrid eclipse
