1- spiritual differences - Although the Methodist Revival had stirred much of England, the American revivals were more widespread and their influence was longer lasting. It helped many colonists realize they could only maintain their religious freedom through a system of self-rule and adequate representation in government. 2- military differences - The colonists had done much of the fighting in the French and Indian War. They were disappointed in the British soldiers' performance and realized that they would have to rely on themselves for defense. 3- economic differences - Because of the America's productive agricultural system, the colonies had never experienced famine and were healthier than the Europeans. American's felt more self-sufficient and began to see themselves as different from those still in Great Britain.
