Aeneid lines 102-112

Talia iactanti stridens Aquilone procella velum adversa ferit, fluctusque ad sidera tollit.

An opposite gail shrieking with the North Wind tossing such things strikes the sails, and raises the waves to the stars.

Franguntur remi; tum prora avertit, et undis dat latus; insequitur cumulo praeruptus (towering) aquae mons.

Oars are broken, then the prow turns and it gives its side to the waves. A towering mountain of water follows in a heap.

tris Eurus ab alto in brevia et syrtis urget, miserabile visu (sing, neuter, supine, ablative of respect), inliditque vadis atque aggere cingit harenae.

The East Wind drives three ships from the deep into the shallows and sand bars, wretched to see, and drives them in the shallows and surrounds with a bank of sand.

Tris Notus abreptas in saxa latentia torquet— saxa vocant Itali mediis quae in fluctibus aras—dorsum immane (in) mari summo;

The South Wind twists three ships having been snatched on to hiding rocks-the Italians call the rocks Altars which are in the middle of the waves-a huge ridge on top of the sea.

Hi summo in fluctu pendent; his unda dehiscens terram inter fluctus aperit; furit aestus harenis.

These ones (men) hang on the highest wave; to these ones (men) the gaping wave opens the land between the waves; the tide rages with the sands.
