Steps to take when you encounter an adult who may have had a cardiac arrest
1. Make sure the scene is safe 2. Tap and shout (check for responsiveness) 3. Shout for help 4. Phone 9-1-1 and get an AED 5. Check for normal breathing
2 main skills of CPR

What do you do if you are not sure if someone needs CPR?
Give them CPR anyways because you may save a life. CPR is not likely to cause harm. It's better to give it to someone who doesn't need it than not to give it to someone who does need it.
Opening up the airway by
Lifting the chin and head to open the airway. This lifts the tongue from the back of the throat to make sure your breaths get air into the lungs
If the chest does not rise when giving breaths you should
Put their head back in normal position, then re-tilt their head and chin up to open the airway again. Then give breaths again.
Switching Rescuers
Switch every 2 minutes or sooner if you get tired. Move quickly to keep any pauses in compressions as short as possible.
When do you provide CPR?
Unresponsive + No normal breathing or only gasping = Provide CPR
Giving breaths without a mask
While holding the airway open, pinch the nose closed with your thumb and forefinger. Take a normal breath covering the person's mouth with your mouth. Give 2 breaths Watch for the chest to begin to rise as you give each breath Try not to interrupt compressions for more than 10 seconds.
