Functions of the [pelvic girdle]:

Bearing weight is the most important function. Protect the reproductive organs, urinary bladder, and part of the large intestine.

Ligaments:

Bind the foot bones together, and tendons help hold the bones firmly in the arched position but still allow a certain amount of give or springiness?

Two largest Tarsals?

Calcaneus (heel bone) Talus- tarsal that lies between the tibia and calcaneus.

Acetabulum?

Deep socket that recieves the head of the thigh bone. (Formed by fusion of the ilium, ischium, and pubis.

All finger has three phalanges?

False, each one has tree except for the thumb, or the great toe, they only have two.

What brings the knees in line with the body's center of gravity?

Femur.

Pelvic Girdle

Formed by two coxal bones, commonly called the hip bones.

What is the Acetabulum formed by?

Fusion of Ilium, Ischium, and Pubis.

Femur's proximal end:

Has a ball like head, it articulates {comes together} with the acetabulum of the hip bone in a deep secure socket.

Bony Pelvis

Hip bones plus coccyx and sacrum

Each Hip Bone, is formed by the fusion of three bones:

Ilium, Ishcium, Pubis.

What is the sit down bone?

Ischium.

The tibia articulates with the femur to for the_______joint?

Knee (joint)

Patella?

Knee cap.

Common site of fractures, especially in old age?

The neck of the femur.

Tarsus?

The posterior half of the foot. Composed of 7 tarsal bones. Body weight is mostly carried by the two largest tarsals.

Iliac Crest?

The upper edge of the winglike portion of the ilium.

Femur?

Thigh bone. [Only bone in the thigh]

Tibia and Fibula?

Two bones that form the skeleton of the leg; Connected along their length by an interosseous membrane.

Ischium?

[sit down bone] Forms the most inferior part of the coxal bone.

Two important functions of the foot?

*Support Body weight *Serves as a lever that allows us to propel forward.

Toes of the foot composed of ?

14 phalanges.

The soloe of the foot is composed of?

5 Metatarsals.

Bones of the pelvic girdle are:

Large and heavy bones, attached to the skeleton. Also, the sockets which recieve the thigh bones, are deep and heavily reinforced by ligaments that attach the limbs firmly to the girdle.

Ilium?

Large flaring bone that forms most of the hip bone. Connects posteriorly with the sacrum at the sacroilac joint.

Fibula?

Lies alongside the tibia; thin and sticklike. Forms joints with the tibia both proximally and distally. NO PART in forming the knee joint.

Pubis?

Most anterior part of a coxal bone.

Tibia?

Shinbone; Larger and more medial.

False Pelvis?

Supports to the true pelvis; The area medial to the flaring portions of the ilia.

True Pelvis?

Surrounded by bone; Lies inferior to the flaring parts of the ilia and the pelvic brim.

Foot is composed of?

Tarsals, Metatarsals, and Phalanges.

Male pelvis's and Females' are the same?

The female pelvis, is wider, lighter, and thinner.
