Drug Interactions -

ACE inhibitors can cause high potassium, which can lead to life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. Patients using potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics are more likely to experience problems

Pharmacology -

ACE inhibitors reduce the effect of angiotensin, ultimately lowering blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and preventing salt retention

Notes -

ACE inhibitors should never be used during pregnancy (pregnancy category X). About 20% of patients on ACE inhibitors experience a dry, nonproductive cough. The only way to eliminate this side effect is to discontinue the ACE inhibitor. Switch to an ARB for the same pharmacologic effect without the dry cough side effect.

Background -

Angiotensin is a hormone produced by the kidneys. It causes vasoconstriction and salt retention, which contribute to high blood pressure

Common side effects among blood pressure -

One thing you should notice about drugs that lower blood pressure is that they can all potentially cause hypotension (low blood pressure). This happens when we get too much of the desired effect. Symptoms of hypotension include fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, and, in sever cases, loss of consciousness - all of which are consequences of insufficient blood flow to the brain.
