Things sexual reproduction needs

- two parents - increase genetic diversity

Characteristics of asexual reproduction

-only one organism -all the offspring are genetically identical to each other and to the parents organism -a single organism can produce large numbers of offspring

Fragmentation

A small part of an animal breaks off and grows into a new organism. A fragment can grow into a complete animal. If a starfish arm comes off, it can reform if it has the central disk

How many cells (chromosomes)

Does the human body have?

Spore formation

Many fungi (moulds, puffballs, mushrooms) algae and non flowering plants reproduce by forming large numbers of spores. Spores are cells with thick walls. They grow into organisms that are identical to the parent

Vegetative reproduction

Some of It uses runners that is a type of stem that grows horizontally along the surface of the soil. Plants like strawberries use these. Runners grow its own roots to become and independent plant. The vegetation reproduction also uses shoots. Shoots come from the base of the trunk and gore new plants.

Meiosis 1

The first phase of meiosis

Budding

The off spring begins as a small growth on the parent, called a bud. The bud then continues to undergo cell division and grow inside before breaking off from the parent. It occurs in single celled organisms like yeast, and multi cellular like hydra. It will be identical to the parent.

Binary fission

The parents undergoes cell division to produve two genetically identical daughter cells or off spring. Examples: algae, bacteria, amoebas It allows for rapid population growth

Meiosis 2

The second phase of meiosis, produces haploid gametes. Repeats meiosis 1
