ASL- Movement Types
Double Movement
Double back and forth tapping, up-down, side to side, and usually twice.
Circular Movement
One or both hands move in a repeated horizontal or vertical circles.
Wiggle Movement
Wiggling fingers back in forth repetitively or slightly wiggling near head.
Strike Movement
Emphasize striking two parts of your body together.
Single Movement
One or both hands move in the direction shown by arrow.
Circular Movement with Direction
One or both hands moving forward or backward in circular motion.
Plural Movement In One Direction
Several small changes in location and type of movement before reaching the end.
Fingerspelling
Signing individual letters.
Single Movement with Change In Direction or Hand-shape.
Direction or hand-shape changes while moving and next continuing to signs final location, in one smooth move.
Multiple Movement
Moving same hand-shape multiple times. Continuous Repeat back and forth up-down.
Twist Movement
Twist your wrist once. Usually only one hand.
