Cardiovascular System

A collection of organs that transport blood throughout the body; the organs in this system include the heart, the arteries, and the veins. The transport system of the body responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrients to the body and carrying away carbon dioxide and other wastes; composed of the heart, blood vessels, and blood.

Respiratory System

A system of organs, functioning in the process of gas exchange between the body and the environment, consisting especially of the nose, nasal passages, nasopharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs.

Immune System

A system that protects the body from foreign substances and pathogenic organisms by producing the immune response. No structural organs.

Lymphatic system

Acts like a "drain" to remove the body's excess fluid and return portions to the blood. Composed of red bone marrow, thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels; picks up fluid leaked from blood vessels and returns it to the blood; Involved with immunity; without the system, the body would swell as fluid becomes trapped in your tissues

Muscular System

All the skeletal muscles in the body. (Cardiac muscle and smooth muscle are components of other organ systems.) give your body the power to move; pump blood through the body; move food through the digestive tract; control the movement of air in and out of the lungs

Urinary System

Composed of Urniary bladder, kidneys, ureters ( strings that attach to the urinary bladder) urethra. It removes chemical waste form the body by filtering the blood for impurities. This system helps maintain the water and electrolyte balance within the body, regulates the acid-base balance in the blood, and removes all nitrogen-containing wastes from the body

Female Reproductive System

Composed of mammary glands, ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, and vagina. Produces eggs, receives sperm, provides for the union of the gametes, harbors the fetus, and nourishes the offspring

Digestive System

Composed of the alimentary canal and accessory structures. Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum), large intestine (colon), and anus, Breaks down food into absorbable units that enter the blood for distribution to body cells.

Male Reproductive System

Overall function is production of offspring. Testes produce sperm and male sex hormone, and male ducts and glands aid in delivery of sperm to the female reproductive tract.

Nervous System

The bodily system that in vertebrates is made up of the brain and spinal cord, nerves, ganglia, and parts of the receptor organs and that receives and interprets stimuli and transmits impulses to the effector organs . like muscles and glands.

Endocrine System

The glands and parts of glands that produce hormones directly into the bloodstream. They help to integrate and control bodily metabolic activity, and include especially the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals, pancreas, ovaries, and testes.

Integumentary system

The organ system that forms a protective covering on the outside of the body Consists of the skin, mucous membranes, hair, and nail, largest organ of the human body protects;receives stimuli from the environment; helps control body temperature; produces vitamin D; removes some waste

Skeletal System

made up of bones, joints, and connective tissue Creates framework of the body, protects internal organs, produces blood cells, acts as levers for muscles. Ex: bones and cartilage, provide for organ attachment.
