Distribute Columns
A command that adjusts the width of the selected columns so that they are equal.
Distribute Rows
A command that causes the height of the selected rows to be equal.
Organizer
A dialog box where you can modify a document by using styles stored in another document or template. (Home tab > Styles group > Styles pane launcher > Manage Styles button > Import/Export button)
Style
A group of formatting commands - such as font, font size, and font color - that can be applied with a single command.
Formula
A mathematical expression that contains functions, operators, constants, and properties, and returns a value to a cell.
Field
A placeholder for data.
Function
A predefined formula that performs calculations by using specific values in a particular order.
Table style
A style that includes formatting for the entire table and specific table elements, such as rows and columns.
Border Painter
A table feature that applies selected formatting to specific borders of a table.
AutoFit
A table feature that automatically adjusts column widths or the width of an entire table.
Merge
A table feature that combines two or more adjacent cells into one cell so that the text spans across multiple columns or rows.
Split Table
A table feature that divides an existing table into two tables in which the selected row becomes the first row of the second table.
Split
A table feature that divides selected cells into multiple cells with a specified number of rows and columns.
AutoFit Contents
A table feature that resizes the column widths to accommodate the maximum field size.
Nested table
A table inserted in a cell of an existing table.
Caption
A title that is added to a Word object and numbered sequentially.
Gridlines
Nonprinting lines that indicate cell borders.
Cell margins
The amount of space between a cell's content and the left, right, top, and bottom borders of the cell.
Cell spacing
The distance between the individual cells in a table.
Header row
The first row of a table containing column titles.
Alternative text
text associated with an image that serves the same purpose and conveys the same essential information as the image.
