Functional Resume
aka skills resume; emphasis on skills and capabilities Advantages: no need for job descriptions, emphasize earlier job experience, or lack of employment
revising your resume
avoid these flaws; not too long or wordsy; too short or sketchy; difficult to read; poorly written; displaying weak understanding of the business world in general or of a particular industry or company; poor quality printing or cheap paper; full of spelling and grammar errors; boastful; gimmicky design
introductory statement
career objective: a career objective identifies either a specific job you want to land or general career track you would like to pursue; qualifications summary- a qualification summary offers a brief view of your key qualifications; career summary - a career summary offers a brief recap of your career with the goal of presenting increasing levels of responsibility
completing a resume
completing resume involves revising, producing various forms and media, and profreading it for any errors before distributing or publishing it online
applicant tracking systems
databases that let managers sort through incoming applications to find most promising candidates, social media and other innovations have changed future
proofreading your resume
employers view your resume as a concrete example to attention to quality and detail (it needs to be perfect)
personal data and references

use short crisp phrases instead of whole sentences and focus on what your reader needs to know; avoid using "I"; start with strong action verbs; quantify results; use keywords; avoid overused buzzwords
