2nd Trimester
*Abdomen begins to swell *Can feel fetal movement (5th Month) *Constipation/ indigestion/ heartburn may begin
1st Trimester

3rd Trimester
*Substantial weight gain *Fetal Movements felt and seen *Indigestion *Frequent urination *Irregular contractions may be felt
Placenta
A thick, blood-rich tissues that lines the wall of the uterus during pregnancy and nourishes the embryo.
Amniotic Sac
A thin bag of tissue will surround the embryo. This "balloon" is called the amniotic sac.
Blastocyst
Cluster of cells with a hallow space, name number two.
Amniotic Fluid
Inside the amniotic sac, which acts as a shock absorber and keeps the temperature of the embryo constant.
Umbilical Cord
It is the "lifeline" to the embryo. Nutrients and oxygen go from the placenta to the embryo. Waste goes from the embryo to the placenta.
Embryo
The name given after implantation.
Fetus
The name given after the 8th week.
Implantation
The process of the blastocyst attaching to the wall of the uterus.
Fertilization
The union of a male sperm cell and a female egg cell.
Zygote
The united egg and sperm. The first name given to the fertilized egg.
