Database management

Productivity software that allows the computer user to work with facts and figures.

Browser

Program for "surfing" the internet.

Random-access memory (RAM)

Read and write memory that the CPU uses for storage.

Floppy disk

Secondary storage device for computer data.

CD-ROM

Secondary storage device for computer data; holds more data than floppy disk.

Tutorial

Self-guided, step-by-step learning process that teaches generic skills needed to use software.

Wizards

Sequence of screens that direct the user through a multistep software task.

Encounter form

Source document for billing purposes that contains the patients account information and insurance codes for date of service. Also the diagnosis and the procedures and services performed for posting charges.

Password

Special set of characters known only to the user and the person who assigned the password; designed to secure and protect unauthorized entry to a computer.

Specialized program designed to find specific information on the internet.

Cold boot

Starting a computer when it has been in "off" mode.

Read-only memory (ROM)

Stored data that can be read but not changed.

Booted up

Warm boot

Term used when the system has been on and must be restarted because it "Freezes up."
