Plants can use light energy to make sugar, Because plants can make sugar, they are producers. Plants can use the sugar along with minerals from the soil to make plant parts such as leaves, stems, and roots. Some of the sugar is stored in the plants' parts, such as the oranges. Some sugar is changed to starch and then stored - mostly in roots

Turnips, sweet potatoes, carrots, nuts, beans, peas, oranges

Veins run through the leaf. The veins of a leaf bring water and minerals to the leaf from the stems and roots. Roots get water and minerals directly from the soil.

As the plant makes sugar, oxygen is released.

When the plant uses the sugar, water and carbon dioxide are given off. Plants get rid of these wastes through holes in their leaves/
