Explain why gases and liquids are called fluids, but solids are not.

Gases and liquids are called fluids while solids are not because they don't have a fixed shape so they can can flow, ergo they are called fluids. Solids are not called fluids because they have a fixed shape giving them the inability to not fly.

Why does ice float on water?

Ice floats on water because it is less dense than water (water's solid form [ice] is less dense than its liquid form [water]).

What happens to the density of matter when the matter is heated?

The matter becomes less dense although ice is and exception to this rule because water becomes less dense when heat is taken away (when it turns to ice)

How is a breeze created over land on a hot summer day?

This happens when air is heated near the ground on a hot summer day, the particles gain energy and move farther apart.

Why is there more oxygen available to breathe at sea level than there is higher in the atmosphere?

This is because the particles are less spread out and there is more density, but the higher you get the more farther the particles get spread out and less dense making it harder to breathe.

Why does water float on corn syrup?
