Labels of usage

Gazatteer
a dictionary of geographical places. it contains statistical cultural and other relevant information about places
Signed column
a feature article written by a columnist that covers a position or a stand about politics, sports, and other matters
Dedication
a page devoted to the person to whom the book is dedicated
Advertisement
a page that contains for sale products, employment opportunities, for rent or for least establishment
Copyright notice
a page where the imprint f the book is indicated. this page serves to be the protection of both the author and the publisher of the book.
Cartoon
a picture or caricature that conveys a current issue
Newspaper
a publication in a broad or spread sheet that offers news, editorials and feature articles which are regularly issued
Digest
a publication of any historical literary and scientific matters
Journal
a publication that focuses on current interest topics
Title
a title or a subtitle of the book which appears at the front cover
Table of content
is the list of topics covered in the book with the page numbers and chapters

Subject Headings
It gives idea how the book is listed in the subject catalog

Spine

The size, volume, and the volume of the book

Open stock arrangement / Open-shelf System
Library users are allowed to walk around the book shelves and thumb over the books without the aide of a library assistant
Closed-Stack Arrangement/ Closed-Shelf System
Library users are restricted to roam around the book shelves, thus, an aide of a librarian is needed

It appears before the title page. it is considered as the full page illustration which relates to the subject of the book

Notes of references, explanations, or comment at the bottom of a page, end of a chapter, or end of the bok
Cross Reference Card
The card bares the word "see" and "see also" which are known as referring the library users to subject heading related to the topic needed
Author
The complete name of the author-first name, middle initial and family name
Pronunciation
The international phonetic Alphabet is used to produce the correct pronunciation of a word. the pronunciation of a word enclosed in parenthesis and indicated by diacritical marks or phonetic spelling

alphabetical listing of books, magazines, journals ans the like
CARD CATALOG
an alphabetical holdings to all the library holdings. measures 3x5 inches w/c are classified by title, by author or by subject with which all cards offer similar information. the only diff is in what info appears on top of the card.

are the latest news or events which are derived drom local national or international in scope

are used for listening and viewing such as over head projectors, globe, maps, charts, tables and the like

books of information that cover general and specific books
almanacs
books that contain current and retrospective information, facts and statistics
atlases
books that contain maps, charts, tables, and other geographic features

brouchures can be loose papers containing information of any specific topic
Dewey Decimal Classification system
classifies books into ten classes of books. each class is represented by arabic numerals. This classification system is invented by Melvil Dewey in 1876

defines words used only with in specific field

describes the general subject matter of the book and the plan of the book

if a book is written by more than one author, the main author card is filed under the name od the author first mentioned on the title page of the book
Periodical Section
includes the collection of digest, journals, magazines and newspapers

includes the list and pages numbers of maps, graphs, illustrations and tables
Magazine
is a paper bound publication with articles, stories and other human interest features that is issued in a weekly or monthly basis
Thumb Index
is a portion of a book that serves as a guide which is found at the side of the book
Audio Visual Room(AVR)
is an optional section of the library. Non-Book materials- charts, tables, drawings, slides, maps, and the like are kept here
Multi-media Section
is another optional section of the library like the audio visual room. Usualy, this section is present in a mdern type library where technological materials are kept
webster dictionary
is the most popular dictionary that provides the pronunciation, history, meaning, date of the word when first used, abbreviation, biographical information and the like
Encyclopedic information
it includes the biographical, historical, geographical, scientific facts, diagrams, illustrations, mythology, literature, foreign language, quotation,and other information

list of references the author had used in writing the book
Glossary
list of vocabulary terms used in the book

Biographical Dictionary
provides information on "noteworthy" people that gives individual description but not so detailed like an encyclopedia
Political maps
show the man made boundaries between countries and continents

show the physical characteristics of the earth surface such as the mountains, rivers, desserts and lakes

the correct arrangement of letters to form the word

Library of Congress Classification System
uses letters and numbers to break or classify subjects into general subject areas. Books (fiction or non-fiction) are shelved alphabetically according to their corresponding call numbers. Most large universities and large libraries used this system of classification. This was introduced in 1904
