Misunderstood fused sentences

A really long sentence is not necessarily a fused sentence, as long as it is able to answer that yes or no question.

Fused Sentence

Also known as a run-on sentence, occurs when two independent clauses are joined without any punctuation or connecting word between them.

Example of a fused sentence

Driving home from school, Brett vowed to protect the fragile ecosystem all the while the tires of his Cadillac Escalade flattened the toads hopping on the wet streets.

Example of a fixed fused sentence

Driving home from school, Brett vowed to protect the fragile ecosystem. All the while, the tires of his Cadillac Escalade flattened the toads hopping on the wet streets.

Identifying a fused sentence

If your sentence as a whole cannot be answered as a yes or no question and only in parts, then this would be considered a fused sentence.

How to fix a fused sentence

You can fix a fused sentence by adding punctuation into your sentence or making one sentence into two sentences.
