HDMF advantages and disadvantages
Advantage
Can be combined with/bonded to dummy switches/buttons/vents/components to create a realistic effect
Advantage
Can be formed from a CAD file using CNC devices
Advantage
Can be primed and painted to create a finish which mimics other materials
Disadvantage
Creates dust when sanded and statically clings making it hard to clear up
Disadvantage
Difficult to shape in small pieces
Disadvantage
Easily crushed and deformed, not a very durable material
Advantage
Easy to work and manipulate into organic, fluid shape/form
Disadvantage
Expensive compared to other modelling materials
Advantage
Lightweight, making it easier to carry a model
Disadvantage
Material is easily damaged by use of solvent based adhesives, paints etc
Disadvantage
Not as durable as harder materials e.g. MDF
Disadvantage
Noxious fumes if heated/melted requiring ventilation
Advantage
Readily forms an ergonomic shape needed for prototype
Advantage
Shaped using basic readily available workshop tools
