communication- acute mania

- labile mood. may go from laughing to anger/depression -inappropriately demanding of people's attention - speech marked by profanity and crude sexual remarks - speech marked by flight of ideas, thoughts race and fly from topic to topic, may have clang associations

-extremely restless, disorganized, and chaotic. behavior difficult to control. can have outbursts -no time to eat or sleep -same as in hypomania except extreme

delirious mania

-most severe form of mania, less common -acute onset, rapid progression -consists of symptoms of both delirium and mania -severe clouding of consciousness, disorientation, fluctuating sensoriumm psychosis, catatonia, and manic symptoms

Physical behavior-hypomania

-overactive, distractive, buoyant, busily occupied with grandiose plans. one action to next -increased sexual appetite. sex used for escape -voracious appetite, eat on the run, or gobble foods during brief periods -goes on buying sprees, gives money and gifts away, can easily go in to debt

communication- hypomania

-talks and jokes. Life of the party. irritated when they're not the center of attention -treats everyone with familiarity and confidentiality -sexual talk, inappropriate -talk is tangenital (one topic to the next)
