Site Structure

A blueprint of the linked arrangement of site pages.

Web host

A server computer that houses all the files for a website.

Wire-frame

A visual representation of a Web page layout; used to connect the content and site structure; skeletal layout representations of the Web site.

Breadcrumb trail

A website navigation technique that involves providing links to previous pages, creating a "Trail" for the user. It also Tracks where the user goes when they visit your site.

Text editor

Allows you to type all content and HTML tags manually such as Notepad.

Purpose

Along with goals, first step in planning a Web site; helps designers determine the scope of the Web site, determine the site content and establish the site structure needed to meet the needs of the client and site visitors.

Navigation Structure

Helps visitors find their way around the site and encourages them to dive deeper into its content.

Content management system (CMS)

Offer pre-designed templates and allow you to connect to your site with your browser for modifications. Such as Drupal or WordPress- Similar to using a web host's site builder.

Hierarchical Structure

Organizes Web pages into categories and subcategories by increasing level of detail.

Search engine optimization (SEO)

The process of affecting the visibility of a website or webpage.

HTML Text Editor

This enables you to create Web pages by typing markup language tags and other related text into a document.

Card sorting

This helps generate ideas for Web site pages and content; places the major categories at the top of a table, subcategories underneath.

Identifying the target audience

This includes physical demographics, cultural demographics, computer experience, and expectations.

Mind map

Visual tool that can help you to: clarify your ideas, define your goals, spark your creativity.

Graphical User Interface (GUI)

WYSIWYG; provide designers with a visual approach to creating Web pages similar to a word processor or desktop publishing application; many contain predesigned templates that designers can use as a starting point for their Web sites.

Linear structure

When a website is presented in specific order.

Hierarchical structure

When the information is put down in order of importance (home page before database or subsections),

Random (webbed) structure

a type of site structure does not contain a primary path.

Online Site Builder

are tools or online applications that typically allow the construction of websites without manual code editing.
