In Port
When threading text you use the text frame ports to establish connections between the text frames.
Soft Return
Word automatically moves to the next line when it reaches the margin of the page and moves the entire word to the next line. This is called a ______ and updates if the characters per line change.
Fields
Labels such as "First Name".
Style
A group of formatting attributes, such as font, font size, color, and tracking, that is applied to text-whenever and wherever you want it to appear-throughout a document or multiple documents.
Kerning
A long-standing process of increasing or decreasing space between a pair of characters.
Graphics Frames
A placeholder used to edit graphics on a page.
Tracking
Adjusting the spacing between words, phrases, and extended blocks of text.
InDesign
Adobe software used for page layout.
Zero Point
By default, the upper-left corner of the document; the point from which the location of all objects on the page is measured.
Target Document
An InDesign file containing the text that will be seen by all recipients, such as a letter, as well as placeholders representing fields, such as <<First Name>>.
Columns
Appear vertically in a worksheet and are identified by letters at the top of the worksheet window.
Pasteboard
Area surrounding the document.
Text Frames
Boxes drawn with the Type tool in which you type or place text.
Paragraph Panel
Command center for modifying paragraphs or blocks of text.
Paragraph/Hard Return
Inserted into the text formatting by pressing [Enter] (Win) or [return] (Mac).
Threading Text
Linking text flow through multiple frames.
Sections
Pages in a document where page numbering changes.
Records
Rows representing information for each recipient, such as "Bob Jones".
Master pages
Templates that you create for a page layout.
Overset Text
Text that does not fit in a text frame.
Transform
The act of moving an object, scaling it, skewing it, or rotating it.
Workspace
The arrangement of windows and panels you see on your monitor.
Point of Origin
The center reference point that has been selected.
Baseline
The invisible line on which the text sits.
Widows/Orphans
Words or single lines of text that become separated from the other lines in a paragraph.
