Expressed Disagreement
All conflict is expressed verbally/nonverbally (screaming match, sit person down to talk, silent treatment, remove self from them, etc.)
Win/Win
Both parties feel satisfied and are happy with outcome
Natural
Bound to happen and is normal
Conflict
Exists when individuals who depend on each other express different views, interests, or goals and perceive their views as incompatible or oppositional
Opposition
Is more than just differences (have to care about it; ex. having kids); the perception that our concerns are at odds with those of another; the perception that we and another must reconcile our differences.
Lose/Lose
Neither party gets satisfaction (continued resentment)
Win/Lose
Only one party gets satisfaction; one person get their way while the other does not (seen frequently in U.S. culture)
Potentially Constrictive
See person's viewpoint, reach new understanding by getting through it/makes relationship stronger.
Inevitable
There is going to be conflict at some point in the relationship (level and intensity may vary)
