Bear Market

A market condition in which the prices of securities are falling, and widespread pessimism causes the negative sentiment to be self-sustaining. As investors anticipate losses selling continues, pessimism only grows.

Buying Power

The total amount of money available for stock purchases and short sales when fully extended on margin.

IPO (Initial Public Offering)

When a company switches from being privately owned to publicly owned (or "goes public"), the initial offering of stock for sale is called an IPO

Securities

a financial instrument that represents an ownership position in a publicly-traded corporation, or rights to ownership as represented by an option.

Return

the gain or loss of a security in a particular period
