Identify at least five characteristics of a quality physical education program. Of the characteristics you identified, which is most important? Provide justification for your decision.
1. Educates the whole child 2. Honors children's voices 3. Clear learning intentions 4. Plenty of practice opportunities 5. Positive emotional environment The most important out of these five characteristics, I believe, is educating the whole child. I think this is vital to a quality physical education program because as teachers it is our goal to equip students with as much knowledge and skills as possible so that they can use these skills later in life. Also, not every student is the same, so we must educate each child based on their specific needs and goals. Once we have accomplished this I think that we have done our duty as physical educators to educate the child as a whole and not just focus on one concept but take a holistic approach to the child's education and meet them where they are at in order to practice physical activity for a lifetime.

Which of the following is the proper sequence for introducing the Movement Framework from Children Moving?
Teaching movement concepts first, using the movement concepts to help teach the skill themes
What is the primary difference between teaching by invitation and intratask variation?
The difference between teaching by invitation and intratask variation is that intratask variation is when the teacher modifies the task for individual students so students who may be more advanced in a skill have the chance to set their own parameters of the task as the lesson is still in process. Teaching by invitation is when the teacher allows the entire class to change the task and so the class has the freedom to choose instead of the teacher choosing for them.
Adults can be at the procontrol level in skills themes if:
They have little or no opportunity to practice
The following vignettes describe inappropriate practices in elementary physical education. First, determine what makes it inappropriate, and then decide how you might make it appropriate. Vignette 1. The PE teacher, Ms. Jones, likes basketball and is the assistant basketball coach at the middle school. She spends six weeks each year on a basketball unit with the fourth- and fifth-grade learners. The unit includes skill drills the first week and then teams of five playing each other, with a round-robin tournament the last week of the unit.
This is inappropriate for elementary level children because she spends a lot of time focused on basketball, something she likes instead of coming up with a curriculum that involves a variety of other sports and activities, allowing for other locomotor, manipulative and non-manipulative skills. Also, the PE teacher does not take into account that these are elementary students who are most likely in the precontrol or control level of the GLSP and might not be prepared to play a game, let alone a tournament, only after a few weeks of skill drills. She is not providing appropriate experiences for student development at their individual skill level. She is not interested in the students' needs or interests because she has them doing only basketball for a long period of the semester, which can lead students to become disinterested. Lastly, she is not emphasizing instructional alignment that provides students with what concepts they will learn and goals they can achieve. Overall, she is not providing quality physical education to students by not implementing a skill theme approach that takes into account the student's developmental needs to become a lifelong mover.
