Accuracy based testing issues

• If in a testing situation, There is a reward for hitting a target • Students that are high skilled, will go for the outside and thus have more error. • Less skilled an tries to hit the whole net and get more points except.

Testing Motor Ability: predicting human performance. The two different types

• Purpose of analysis • Measure sub domains

Subjective skill tests

• Subjective ratings: scores derived from assessing the form of the movement rather then the (cues) o Golf teacher is a skill analyst o Have a list of critical elements (of form) The absolute need in order to accurately perform. (Ex. BEEF, Balance, Eye's, Elbow, Follow-through)

Repetitive-performance Tests

• Tests that involve continuous performance of an activity for a specified period of time

4 primary Objective tests

• Accuracy-based test • Repetitive- performance tests • Total body movement tests • Distance or power performance o What are these and what are the scoring issues with in each of these tests?

Distance and power tests

• Assess one's ability to project an object for maximum displacement or force.

Total body movement test

• Assess speed of which a performer completes a task at a fast speed

Accuracy based Testing

Involve the throwing or hitting of an object, such as a volley ball or shuttlecock. - Ex. kicking a soccer ball into the net at specific corners

Distance and power tests issues

o Badminton drive test (distance) o Distance throws in softball and baseball o Punt pass and kick competitors • Problems: assuring they are performing the task correctly • If hitting a down the line shot, it is more important for accuracy. • Doesn't matter about the score, but about • Assumption of power, when in fact it is accuracy.

Total body movement Test Issues

o Ex. Dribbling a basketball around obstacles at a fast speed o Flaws: During a game situation you want use max spread, but you need to control you speed. o Reliability: pretty high o Validity: If you measure, make the test very game like.

Different types of Measured Sub Domains?

o Muscular strength, speed, agility, anaerobic power, flexibility, balance, Kinesthetic perception.

Trials to Criteria Tests

o Perform skill until reach a certain criteria... 8 free throws in a row. o (ex. Gives the person the chance to work on another skill, while the others practice their needed skill, free throw shots)

Purpose of Analysis, What is the process?

o Selection, classification, diagnosis, and prediction

Performance Based Test

o Skill classified according to actual performance based on reaching criteria - archery, golf, bowling, swimming. o (ex. Performing golf game)

Issues with Repetitive-performance Tests

o Used to measure strokes of racket sports o High degree of reliability (Important) o Low validity (Important) o Not game-like, may not transfer into actual game performance o Testers make sure that the test subjects use correct form. o Validity, volley in a game to a square on the wall

Global Ratings

score overall performance in a game like context o Players ability to make the correct decision in the correct amount of time. o Ex. Of passing soccer-ball to the person with a defender next to them.
