Level 3: Post Conventional Morality (adulthood)
Abstract notions of justice. Rights of others can override obedience to laws/rules. Stage 5: Social Contract Orientation- Difference between moral and legal right. Stage 6: Universal Ethical Principle Orientation-Individual principles of conscience. Takes account of likely views of everyone affected by a moral decision.
Will rakes his neighbor's lawn because he knows his neighbor will appreciate it.
Level 2 Stage 4
Level One: Pre-Conventional Morality. (Age 9)
Right and Wrong determind by rewards and punishment. Stage 1: Punishment-Obedience Orientation- Whatever leads to punishment is wrong. Stage 2: Instrumental Relativist Orientation- Rewards. The right way to behave is the way that is rewarded.
Level 2: Conventional Morality (Most Adolescence and Adults)
Views of others matter. Avoidance of blame;seeking approval. Stage 3: Good Boy-Nice Girl Orientation(interpersonal concordance)-Good intentions. Behaving in ways that conform to "good behavior". Stage 4: Law and Order Orientation-Obedience to authority. Importance of "doing ones duty".
In order to avoid time outs in nursery school, Julia doesn't steal other children's snacks.
