LAA ENG 10 1-2 Paragraph Structure
first draft
the first final of your essay. ( also called the rough draft.)
introduction
the first paragraph in an essay. it includes a hook, interesting information, and a thesis
strong final sentence
the last sentence of your paragraph - ALL commentary and gives finished feeling to your paragraph
body paragraph
A body paragraph begins with a transition, topic sentence, supporting details, and final closing sentence.
formal writing
It follows the rules of good grammar, complete sentences, and uses proper punctuation, and it is the majority of the writing that you do in school.
graphic organizer
It is a plan or blueprint of your prewriting, which puts the main point and supporting details in logical and organzied order.
brainstorming
It is making a list of details and ideas related to your subject by diagramming or using clustering (bubble) map.
hook
It is the introduction of the paragraph using many different techniques like presenting interesting facts or information about your topic, asking a question, sharing a short story, scientific facts, humorous, hooks, and/or a quotes are just some of the ways to create a quote.
concluding paragraph
It is the last paragraph in your essay. Your conclusion is to revisit the main idea and summarize the the main points and does not include new details. Summarize the subtopics or recap. Make sure you have a final strong statement whcih gives a finished feeling to your whole essay.
hook
It is the opening part of your piece of writing that the reader uses to pull or grab the readers attention
informal writing
It is the type of writing used for texting, social media, and friendly letters and messages.
conclusion
It should contain a summary of the main idea (thesis), review sub topics, challenge your reader and/or have a strong final statement.
free write
Jotting down ideas in rough sentences, words, or phrases everything that comes to your mind about a possible topic.
credible information
Research and factual information that is found published) in many different places and has data to back up the information.
pre-writing
The beginning stage of organizing your thoughtsfor the author's purpose, audience, and is often times uses a graphic organizer.
audience
To whom the author is writing to with a specific purpose and specific style of writing.
body paragraph
a middle paragraph in an essay. it develops a point (sub topics) you want to make that supports your thesis. It includes transition, subtopic (topics), details, and closing sentence.
essay
a piece of writing that gives your thoughts about a subject. have at least have an introduction, one or more body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph
thesis
a sentence with a subject (main idea) and the author's opinion. this comes at the end in your introductory paragraph.
topic sentence
always consists of a subject and an opinion.
