LAB EXERCISE 16.1 Comparing Arid and Humid Landscapes
Why the difference between the landscapes in the previous question?
More water in the humid landscapes means destructive geologic processes will happen at a higher rates, producing thicker soil and more rounded landscapes
In which areas do you think landscape changes are more rapid? Are slower? Explain your answer.
not -arid; faster weathering because there is more water
What type of erosion appears to be dominant in the arid regions? In the humid regions? How is this possible?
Streams are the dominant type of erosion in both regions. Although there is less water in arid regions, when it rains, runoff removes and transports more sediment than wind.
The four photographs on p. 412 in your lab manual show two typical arid landscapes (top) and two typical humid landscapes (bottom). Examine the photos and answer the following questions. In which areas are the landforms more angular? In which are they more rounded?
The arid landscapes are more angular, while the humid landscapes are more rounded.
